The Healthy (Conscious) Interview: Ryan Slater and Zach Berman
I’m a sucker for a good green juice…and the mighty pineapple. So, it goes without saying that I love The Juice Truck.
Founders Ryan Slater and Zach Berman do a pretty excellent job at radiating good vibes while running their booming cafe, truck and juice delivery business. The Juice Truck defines healthy, conscious business. The cafe also features a community space, which plays host to workshops, fitness and cooking classes…I’ll be there for an upcoming Mama Monday in March – so keep an eye out!
You are both incredibly busy entrepreneurs…how do you keep your energy up so you can do it all?
We drink lots of juice for one 🙂 For us, it comes down to maintaining a sense of balance. Nourishing ourselves with clean, plant-based whole foods. As long as we’re fueling ourselves with good foods, our energy levels stay good. Sleep is key, getting a restful sleep, most days of the week and taking sometime to recharge. Whether that is going for a hike and getting outdoors or getting lost in a good movie.
Have you always been health focused? Where did it start for you?
It started in high school. Initially through being very active in sports and wanting to fuel ourselves with the best possible foods. From there, it grew through education. Learning about what we are putting in our bodies and the effect our food choices have both on our bodies and the environment.
You can often be seen on Instagram hiking our gorgeous trails…what do you pack for nourishment?
Hitting the trails is our favourite way to recharge. We usually bring a few green juices, lots of water, some fruit and vegetables and a bag full of nuts and seeds. Sometimes a chocolate bar for the end of the hike 🙂
I know parents aren’t supposed to choose favourites…but if you had to pick one desert-island sipper off your menu, what would you choose?
Anything with almond butter! The Green Protein probably because it is so jam packed with nutrients: Spinach, Kale, Avocado, Banana, Spirulina, Mooring, hemp, chia, medjool date, almond butter and almond milk.
Do you have a morning routine?
Start the day with 2 glasses of water. If the morning goes well, it starts with a quick 30 minute workout or run and a nice cup of tea for the drive into work.
