Editorial Policy
I (Desiree Nielsen RD) created this website in 2012 to share my love of food and nutrition with the world. It has evolved over the years, as I have learned and grown, into a place for evidence-based nutrition information and plant-based recipes to help you live a healthier, happier life. My goal is to help improve access to quality nutrition information and nutritious recipes. You can learn more about me, and my professional credentials, on my about page.
I am sharing this editorial policy so you can have confidence in what I share here on https://desireerd.com/ In a world of conflicting and confusing nutrition advice online, I want you to know that everything I do here is aligned with the integrity and ethics you’d expect from a registered dietitian.
Recipe Development Process
As a dietitian, I know that creating delicious, easy and nourishing plant-based recipes is the best way to help others meet their health and nutrition goals. Eating well should be joyful! I create 100% of the recipes on this website myself, in my home kitchen, without ghost writers or recipe developers…and I cook from these recipes in my daily life. Occasionally, I may share someone else’s recipe to support their cookbook launch, or I might adapt a recipe from someone else for my own tastes, and this will be clearly stated on the post.
I test each recipe myself a minimum of 3 times before it is published on this website (sometimes many, many more!). My goal is to thoroughly detail ingredients and steps through text, images and video, to help you reach the best results but individual results can vary based on your appliances, your cooking skill and the ingredients you use.
I highly recommend you follow the recipe exactly as written the first time you make it…if you make changes to recipes or method, I can’t be sure it will work out for you…and I want you to love it! I will often detail potential substitutions in the blog post and recipe card. If you don’t see your desired substitute mentioned, leave me a comment!
Comment Policy
Have a question or comment about a blog or recipe? Leave me a note in the comment section! Yep, it’s actually me who reads and responds to every single comment…and I love doing it.
Why comment? It helps build community, which is my primary goal here. And there is probably someone else out there who was thinking the same thing and will be happy your comment is there. Whether you loved it, have a question about a step, or have constructive feedback, all comments are welcome…I know that we don’t all have the same tastebuds and not everyone will love a recipe. Your comment may help others decide if the recipe is right for them. As a result, I do not remove or manipulate reviews or star ratings to ensure you have a clear representation of each recipe.
However, I have a zero tolerance policy towards any comments that are considered harassment, abuse or contain profanity, hate speech or are blatantly disrespectful. I also reserve the right to remove clearly inaccurate comments and ratings from anyone who makes substantial changes to the recipe and then rates it poorly because it doesn’t work out. Because if you change the almond flour to coconut flour, the maple syrup to sugar AND chocolate chips to blueberries and the muffins were dried out and puck-like, it’s not actually due to my recipe!
Maintaining and Updating Content
I write a new blog post every single week…and have been doing so for over ten years! My cooking and writing style continues to change, and so I try to update older posts to ensure they meet my current standards.
Nutrition is a young, constantly evolving science and it is my intention to ensure that I provide the latest, evidence-based information here on the blog. Any nutritional or health claims are backed by current research, typically with a hyperlink (or using a bibliography on older posts). As a registered dietitian, I have a duty to provide nothing but the most accurate, credible and evidence-based information.
Every post here is original content, written by me (with very few guest posts, clearly labelled). I try to review and update content as needed…but it takes a village! If you have a question about something you’ve read, or think something might be in need of review, please leave me a comment. It will help alert me that something needs reviewing and I will ensure it is taken care of.
