About
I believe that feeding yourself well should be a joyful process and know that good nutrition has the power to transform your life – which is where the transformative nutrition thing comes in. I became a registered dietitian to do just that and over the years, the deeper meaning of that statement has evolved.
When you’re here, you’ll find deeply flavourful, nutrient-dense plant-based recipes that don’t take a ton of effort to cook. Whether you need a quick and easy vegan breakfast or a flavour-packed vegan dinner that the whole family will love, I’ve got you.
I’ll put tofu in almost anything, like my silken tofu mac and cheese. And I try to eat my greens every single day – this easy blender green juice helps!
And because I’m a digestive health dietitian at heart, I will never forget to offer plenty of low FODMAP recipes and naturally gluten free options because I think everyone deserves to enjoy what they eat, no matter what their unique dietary needs are, whether you’re dairy free, looking for high fibre recipes or even high protein recipes.
When I started this website – waaaaaay back in 2014 I think? – it was to create a home for myself as a registered dietitian on the internet. It’s totally transformed since then into a place for nourishing plant-based recipes with a side of nutrition, as well as my podcast and my private practice.

This website is run by me, Desiree Nielsen RD, and I create every single blog post and recipe myself.
I take testing very seriously because I want my recipes to work in your home kitchen! Before it lands on the blog, each recipe is tested a minimum of 3 times (usually more).

The beautiful photos on my blog are currently created by photographer Sabrina Loeprich with me, in my not-very-glamourous basement, ha.
Because I am a dietitian, you’ll also find evidence-based nutrition here, on everything from gut health nutrition to anti-inflammatory diets and plant-based nutrition. Everything I share is backed by current science.
I aim to create positive nutrition education with a weight-neutral lens. What the heck does that mean? I believe it’s more important to focus on what to eat more of, for your unique needs, than what to avoid.
And that health is more important than a number on the scale.
Over the years I have been fortunate to write 3 award-winning, Canadian bestselling cookbooks and my work is regularly featured in media outlets including Bon Appetit, The Globe and Mail, The Good Stuff with Mary Berg, CBC News, KTLA, self.com, marthastewart.com, eatingwell.com, PARADE, People Magazine and more.
