Ginger
Ginger is one of my favourite anti-inflammatory, gut-boosting foods. Prized as a medicinal food, this rhizome has a long standing history of use in cuisines across the Asian continent from India to China to Indonesia. Ginger is a pro-kinetic, meaning that it helps facilitate stomach emptying, and is used for nausea in pregnancy.
It’s a warming, stimulating herb with tons of punchy heat that makes any recipe better, whether it’s a creamy dressing or vinaigrette, a kabocha squash and chickpea curry, or a granola bar. I love using ginger in smoothies too, like this turmeric ginger smoothie with greens. If you love ginger, you’ll find plenty more ginger recipe in my cookbook Good For Your Gut.
