I LOVE green juice…there are few things you can eat that just make you feel so good, almost instantly. Feeling sluggish? This easy green juice recipe will fix you up, better than coffee ever could!
It’s hydrating, of course, because dehydration can lead to fatigue and even, ugh, constipation. And because we’re blending, not juicing, you haven’t lost any of the valuable fibre that helps keep your gut happy!
But, this green blender juice also makes it really easy to pack in a lot of vegetables so you can get a near instant boost of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and anti-inflammatory phytochemicals to help your body do its thing.
As a dietitian, I am all about positive, additive plant-based nutrition. Your health is determined more by what you actually eat than by what you leave out. And there are SO many health benefits to adding a green blender juice to your life! Plus, making green juice yourself is also WAY more affordable (and fresher) than buying it.
So let’s free poor green juice of its association with crusty detoxes where everything tastes like despair and embrace the fresh, energizing and bright flavour of my go-to green juice, which I originally created for Good For Your Gut Cookbook. I’ve been drinking this exact green blender juice for a few years now, whenever I need a little boost!
Also hot tip: a green juice is NOT a meal. It’s something to be sipped alongside a meal, like my 5 minute chickpea scramble, or or as a healthy snack, okay?? Green juice doesn’t have healthy fats or plant-based protein, so it’s not balanced enough to be a standalone meal.
How to make an affordable, energizing green blender juice at home
Get out your blenders, team!! I have never owned a juicer, in part because I have a tiny kitchen and every tool I add to it needs to pull its weight…but also because I HATE cleaning a juicer.

In case you were wondering, I did not choose these ingredients randomly. Each serves a purpose! Celery is rich in electrolytes, while the ginger stimulates stomach emptying to settle the stomach. Parsley is highly underrated as a green leafy vegetable; it’s inexpensive, surprisingly nutritious and not at all bitter. With plenty of vitamins A, C and K and anti-inflammatory carotenoids and flavonoids it’s a really great way to get more green power into your life.
Why make green juice in a blender?
I really like fibre…so I’d much rather make my green juice in my trusty high-speed blender so I don’t throw away all the fibre. And it is SO easy to make a juice in the blender!
You could strain it through a nut milk bag or fine mesh strainer…but I never do, so I keep all that valuable fiber. That fiber means the juice gets a little thicker as it chills, but I don’t mind. You can shake up with a bit of extra water if you want it thinner!
How to make any green juice taste better
Take it from someone who loves to eat and writes cookbooks for a living…I’m not one of those people who will just knock back a juice or smoothie even if it tastes bad.
It has to taste good…or what’s the point? Of course, everyone’s taste buds are different. So I want to arm you with the tools you need to adjust your juices so they suit your taste.
- Tastes a bit dull? Try a tiny pinch of salt…yes salt! I don’t usually add it to this juice as celery contains sodium, but adding a little pinch of salt to juices or smoothies enhances flavours (and won’t make them taste salty!)
- Want it a bit sweeter or need to balance out bitterness? Sugar neutralizes bitterness. Add an apple, a peeled orange or even a ½ cup of orange juice.
- Taste is a bit bitter, flat, or ‘muddy’? Acidity brightens flavours…which is why I add a slice of lemon, peel and all! It’s the secret to a bright, refreshing green juice without any trace of bitterness or earthiness. You can also just add a squeeze of lemon juice if you prefer.
Tips, Tricks and Substitutions
- Low FODMAP? Omit celery, skip apple and add more cucumber!
- Really, you can use any greens you have on hand..it will change the flavour a bit but you can always adjust it with the tips above! Try substituting spinach or kale for parsley.
- Bonus: you can totally make popsicles out of this juice for a nourishing hot weather refresher.

2023 is my healthier life year. This sounds like a good start.
Heck yes to that!!
I’m allergic to apples unless they are first heated. Could I use applesauce in this or is there another fruit that might better take the place? I’m intrigued but usually don’t like green juices because they almost always taste like grass to me (this from someone who LOVES veggies).
Yes, you could totally use applesauce or an orange would also be yummy!
I am looking forward to trying this recipe, who doesn’t need an energy boost!!
Always enjoy your emails.
Thank You
Hi Susan, I hope you love it!
I really struggle to get enough greens so I have to try this! Thanks you for the recipe 🙂
Hope this makes it much easier 🙂

works better than coffee…most of the time 🙂
I will try it! Sounds delicious!
Hope you love it, JoAnn!
Please share more blender juices!
I want to try more juices this year but have not committed to buying a juicer yet.
That’s all the reason I need…should we do beet next?
Thank you. Sounds easy enough to prepare. I will for sure try it out
Hope you love it Gabriela!
Definitely something to add to my day!
Hope you love it, Chris!
Looks great and love the simplicity of just a few ingredients!
Simple = sustainable!! my motto for 2023
Thank you, Desiree. I dislike “muddy-tasting” smoothies so will use your tips.
And thank you for all the great nutritional advice – so appreciate your myth-busting.
Lemon changes EVERYTHING!
The green juice very refreshing and energizing! Thank you
Thank you Lori!
Thanks for making this recipe in a blender! I have a juicer but I don’t like cleaning all parts.
cleaning a blender is sooo much easier and i am very lazy ha!
Will definitely try! I make a green smoothie every day and like trying new recipes, never thought to use celery. Okay
Let me know what you think of the celery addition!
Sounds yummy. Similar to a smoothie I make … but with vegan protein powder.
nice! protein powder is a great way to make it more of a meal.
I can’t wait to try this! Do you peel the ginger?
in a vitamix you don’t really have to…but I do. technically, you don’t even have to seed the apple! magic machines.
Thank you for all of your support! I have been a follower for a few years now. I also enjoy listening to your Allsorts podcasts. I can’t say that I’ve fully jumped over to the green side lol but I make sure that half my plate has some sort of greens every meal! This recipe is amazing by the way perfect way to get those greens in!
Thank you so much for being a part of this community, Maria! Making half your plate plants is a dang fine way to live 🙂
I love the idea that you are getting the juice and fibre. I do not own a juicer and any juice recipe I read requires a juicer. The clean up and pulp residue required with juicing turns me off from juicing! It’s great that it will keep in the fridge for a couple of days too!
Right? Like, I want the juice…but I also want the fibre.
My intent for 2023 is to add more fruits/veges to my diet and this green juice looks like a perfect way to start doing that. And thanks for the tip about the Magic Bullet to help with breaking down the lemon…..I don’t have a Vitamix but will certainly give it a try in my Kitchen Aid mixer. Thanks for the recipe!!
Hope you love it, Gail!
Can’t wait to try! Love your recipes, blog posts and pods! As well as directing people to your content with vegan nutrition questions! Happy new year.
Happy New Year Becky!
Looks so refreshing!
Thank you Kari! Hope you like it 🙂
This sounds delicious. I’m never sure if a more powerful blender like a vitamix or similar (which I don’t have) is assumed, but I I’m going to try it in my kitchenaid standard blender and hope for the best. I usually use an immersion blender for most smoothies, just because it’s so easy to use and clean. Thanks for the recipe!
I hope it works well in your kitchenaid! You might want to do a fine dice on the lemon and ginger as the blade isn’t as strong as the vitamix 🙂
Thank you. I have a hard time getting enough veggies. This is perfect as I can take it on the go. So easy 🥰
Hi Lisa, I’m all about making it easy 🙂
This is the perfect recipe to make in the New Year! Thank you Desiree!
Hope you love it Elena!
DN- You’re my hero for the holiday season. I made the chocolate matcha cups for NYEve, sticking little holy men statues in each (that for some deep reason I was driven to make) and guests were delighted. Thank you so much kind woman!EW/JR
Ah, I am so glad you like the matcha cups from Good For Your Gut!! Happy New Year Jennifer
