I’ll give it to you straight: I love beets but really don’t eat them as often as I would like. My family isn’t super into them and well, prepping roasted beets takes time (unless you buy them pre-cooked, which is culinary progress rivaled only by sliced bread in my books, ha!)
So here I am, giving you (and me!) a really easy beet recipe so I can get more of the good stuff into my life more often…because beets are a powerhouse of nutrition.
Take it from the dietitian – beets are packed with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory phytochemicals. The most famous being betalains, which are thought to help lower inflammation in addition to naturally nitrates that may improve athletic performance and support healthy blood pressure. So this raw beet smoothie makes a great breakfast option pretraining.
And for the rest of us? It’s just a great way to get a whole lotta nutrition into our bodies so we can feel our best. It’s one of the reasons why I love smoothies so much…what other 5 minute breakfast gives us a ton of fruit and veg plus protein that we can take on the go??

Here’s what you need to know about making this cherry + beet smoothie
This easy beet smoothie packs in 7g of fibre and 23g of protein thanks to soy milk and hemp hearts…but you can swap in almond or oat milk if you like and boost with a bit of protein powder.

HOT TIP: Keep that beet to 2 inches max or the smoothie will get a bit earthy! Still earthy? A wee squeeze of lemon – or maple syrup – will even it out.

Hi Desiree – love love your cherry beet smoothie! I wondered if the raw beet would blend as I have a ‘nutribullet’ – so I cut it into small pieces first. It was fine. So refreshing! Thank you.
Oh that’s so good to know Anita…I feel like lots of folks have a bullet. Thanks for sharing!
Gotta think this is very high in sugar. How much is in a serving? Thanks.
Hi Brian,
There are no added sugars here at all…just 2.5 servings of fruit. When you taste it you’ll see, it’s very unsweet ha ha – and the considerable fibre and protein will moderate blood sugar impact so I consider this a blood sugar friendly choice for most.
However, if you need to count carbs for medical reasons, I highly recommend the Cronometer app to help you keep track of carbs as I don’t offer detailed nutritionals for the recipes.
I made this and it’s perfect! Didn’t change a thing. It’s definitely on repeat
I am so glad you liked it Christina! I’m a sucker for a smoothie that’s cute and seriously nutrient-dense ha ha
wonderful smoothie, it tasted sweet so felt like a treat but with that much protein I could feel a little smug too!
